Day 19 - July 19, 2011. Aside from having distinctive characters,a recognizable logo plays a huge part on the awareness of your comic title. I learned about it in the school library back in my college days. When I learned how to execute one, I fell in love with the logo creation phase of my comic titles. I can be in a logo creation phase all day long without getting bored. So from this post onwards, I’ll be talking about logo creation process of my titles. I know, this is not komiks stuff but it’s the part of komik creation that I think fellow indie creators should be aware of.

Let me tell you about the Read After Midnight logo.

1. When I design a logo, I always think of the line that would best describe your comic title. I always think of the summary of my story. In Read After Midnight’s case, it’s “Be careful of what you wish for.” Since Read After Midnight (R.A.M.) is all about wishes, wishers, wishgranters and the consequences, I want the logo to represent the source of every man’s wish and desire. It’s his heart.|

2. From the heart shape, I formed the R.A.M. letters which are the acronym for Read After Midnight. Yes, that phase is a little messy but that is one of my favorite part.

3. If you are a reader of R.A.M., you may recognize the illustration above. That’s the tattoo on R.A.M’s chest which also forms as his monster pet, Snaiki. I wanted it to be part of the logo but not forcing it to blend with it.

4. So here’s the QUITE polished logo. I added the crown to represent the wishgranters. Here’s what I can throw to you, whenever I create a logo design, I always think of my main character as well. So I can confidently say that if Ram is a logo, he would definitely look like this.

In logo designing, we must limit the colors up to three solid colors. This is to make things easy on the eyes and to make your logo credible enough. Please take note that neutral colors such as: Black, White and Brown are not counted.

Note: In indies, comic creators are limited to black and white. It can’t be helped but we can always show our logos online or by any colored print means! I am meticulous with logos so whenever a Revel member submitted a new title to me, I unconsciously look for the logo and totally gives my honest opinion about it.

Day 5 - July 5, 2011. Read After Midnight (R.A.M) is my first and only title that reached its 5th issue in indie scene. It is quite hard to maintain a series and most of my works are one shot. R.A.M. is a dark themed episodic series. Debuted on the first ever Komikon, last 2004, it has been a roller coaster ride. It is currently under hiatus but I’ll be sure to return with more solid and interesting continuation.

Synopsis
A man lives to fulfill his wishes but making some of it happen may take time and may take a tedious process. In most cases, there are wishes that may seem impossible to fulfill… That is why there are “Lorani”, exquisite gothic beings living to become wishgranters of human beings.

Ram, a Lorani who lives in the world of human beings to grant wishes- without asking anything in return but merely following precisely his two simple conditions. Thus, be careful on following strictly his conditions. For if one of the given conditions was failed to follow, there are dark consequences that may happen. However, Ram is not be accountable for the unfortunate events that may happen to the wisher.

Read After Midnight (R.A.M.) spins in series of gothic tales involving the dark wishgranter, Ram, who is fulfilling the wishes,and the people who desires to make their wishes into reality.
